What’s in a name? Origins of “Pursuits Coaching”

When I think of career management, I think of setting goals and pursuing them, which is why I chose Pursuits Coaching as the name of my coaching practice. But our career pursuits are never just about salary, job title, or the most recent promotion. We pursue goals motivated by our needs and values, inspired by our beliefs and our loved ones. Because our life changes over time, our pursuits–and our strategies for achieving them–change too. Achievement in a career is not a singular, linear process. Instead, I think of achievement as developing a toolkit of skills to approach career management in order to adapt to our changing pursuits.

In an earlier moment of my own career I was an eighteenth-century scholar, I am also influenced by the noble or virtuous pursuits advocated for by contemporary philosophers and writers. This simply means being true to yourself. As a coach, my job is to ask the questions to help you reflect on your goals so they match your true needs and values. I guide clients through the process of finding the best information to make career decisions. And I provide concrete and explicit frameworks for meeting your pursuits.

If this sounds like we would work well together, if you are ready to discover and follow your pursuits, contact me using the form on the Contact Page.

Kindly,

Ellie
